Abby
Special Needs Animals - Update

The Fall 2005 newsletter featured six cats in our foster homes with special needs – the FeLV+ cats Abby and Smoke, the FIV+ cats Camillo and Fred, diabetic Julius, and Willie with his heart condition.

 Just before Christmas, Julius and Willie were adopted (see below) so it was just Abby, Smoke, Camillo and Fred that went to the Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanabe, Utah.  After a short quarantine period, all four were incorporated into the cat community at Best Friends and have adjusted quite well.

Tails
 For Annie, Julius, and Willie – all of whom at one time we feared would never be adopted – Happy Tails like theirs are what we at AHS are all about, hope for, and dream of for all those that we rescue and take into our foster homes.

Willie
Willie was found as a stray kitten in a neighborhood and was "pound-bound" until we intervened. As he got a little older, he was discovered to have a heart murmur.  His caregiver decided to keep him for herself, easing his separation anxiety forever.

Annie
Annie was so traumatized by her experience at the pound that she allowed no one to come near her or touch her for almost a year, until the day her special human angel appeared at Petsmart, adopted her, and whisked her off to a life of happiness.

Julius
Julius’s former owner was a victim of an abusive boyfriend, and she could not take Julius and her other cats with her to the shelter for battered women.  An elderly cat, Julius was also found to be diabetic.  Julius himself adopted his foster mom’s financee as his new dad just before Christmas and now happily lives in Virginia.
