Annie

I want to share a good story with all of you.

I know we've had a lot of stories with wonderful endings like Lucy who found her new home, the kittens that we've brought to Best Friends, or Maggie who went to "Home for Life" sanctuary in Minnesota. But there is always one that is even better.

Some of you might still remember Annie. Annie was picked up by Animal Control with her babies in March of 2005. All the babies got adopted very fast, but not Annie. Susan pulled Annie at the very last day and brought her home, only to find out that Annie really doesn't like any other animals.

For Annie, that meant being confined in Susan's bathroom until she was ready to find a home.  But something broke in little Annie.  She totally freaked out at Petsmart. There was no chance to find her a home.  She later went to Sarah, where she loved to sit on the window and watch the outside world.  But she was confined to one room, because also Sarah had a lot of other animals.  Then Sarah needed to move out and Annie couldn't go with them.

We decided to bring Annie to the barn in Kaplan. But the weather wasn't good and since no other foster home was available,  we brought her again to Petsmart. Nobody could touch her. She was hissing and growling at everybody.  Wednesday the 15th was supposed to be the day for her to go to Kaplan even though there would be a lot of other cats.  For Annie that means either live with them or find your spot. It definitely was an uncertain future for her. I felt so bad when I looked at her. She was the most scared and sad looking cat that I have seen in a long time.

On Tuesday the 14th, Diana and I went to the pound to rescue 4 cats. After a stop at St.Francis, we went to Petsmart to set up Anastasia, the white Persian. A woman named Margaret showed up and expressed an interest in Annie, stating that she had been wanting a cat. I  talked a lot in Annie's favor, and finally Margaret decided to bring Annie home and see how things worked out. Annie still went to Kaplan, but to her own farm,  300 acres where she can roam and feel free again but also will have a warm spot inside the house whenever she wants.

Yesterday morning my heart nearly stopped when I got a call from Kaplan. It was Margaret.  She just wanted to tell me how wonderful Annie was. She and her boyfriend are thinking that this is the most beautiful girl in the world.
And both of them were holding her and Annie was purring, purring, purring.

There was no question about it - Annie had found her angel in Margaret.

Do you believe in wonders?  I think everything that happened to Annie from the day she was rescued by Susan was meant to be, so she could find her forever home.

For anybody who doesn't know Annie - here is her photo.
